Wolf

Posted by in .

Wolf is a 3yo Palomino Gelding from Triple B HMA. He is in training as part of the TIP Program and has already found a adopter!

July 1, 2014

Worked with Wolf to introduce him to the new sand box obstacle. He was very good!

June 17, 2014

Wolf learned to hobble tonight. It went as well as expected! Such a good boy.

June 7, 2014 – Day 20

Wolf’s adopter came out to visit. He was able to take him over the obstacle course. He took Wolf through the plastics box and over the tarp for the first time! We even saddled him for the first time! A couple little bucks but otherwise NO problem! Such a good boy!

June 5, 2014 – Day 18

Wolf wore the boat bumpers tonight in preparation for saddling. No buck or worry about them at all!

June 4, 2014 – Day 17

Wolf stood tied at the rail for a couple hours today. He’s still impatient when he ties (to be expected) and practice makes perfect! Worked with him on being more respectful when leading, stopping when I stop, walking when I walk, and staying out of my bubble!! He was great tonight! Much improved on his leading!!

June 2, 2014 – Day 15

Worked with Wolf on haltering and facing up. He’s a calm guy but he isn’t sure about being caught right now. Practiced some groundwork including hindquarter and forequarter yields.

June 1, 2014 – Day 14

Worked with Wolf on ground manners especially yielding his hindquarters and forequarters. It was slow going at first but he really started to catch on towards the end of the lesson. Smart cookie this one!

May 30, 2014 – Day 12

Obstacle course day for Wolf. This is his first time on this side of the property, first time on the course and I think the pictures / video speak for themselves. He’s pretty darn brave for 12 days out of the wild!! He’s a little pushy when he is not sure what to do so we’ll work on ground manners but overall very impressed with him!

May 29, 2014 – Day 11

Look who learned to tie tonight! This horses is just happy to go along with whatever. Never even set back, walked offa  couple times and hit the rope and had kind of an “well this is inconvenient” look about him! Such a good boy! The video is RIGHT after I tied him for the first time. I figured it wasn’t going to be an issue!

May 28, 2014 – Day 10

Basic desensitization for Wolf today and started to teach him to disengage his hindquarters in preparation for saddling / picking up feet.

May 27, 2014 – Day 9

Moved Wolf to a different stall so he has more exposure to other horses. Girls on two sides and a gelding on on. He wasn’t sure about crossing the threshold of the stall gate but he’ll learn that means he’s coming out for fun stuff!

May 26, 2014 – Day 8

Worked with Wolf continuing desensitization. He was cinched up with the bareback pad for the first time and could care less! What a brave boy this guy is!

May 23, 2014 – Day 5

Worked with Wolf to reveiw yesterdays lesson with the flag. He doesn’t really mind as you can see in his video. Then I worked to introduce him to the saddle blanket. He wasn’t sure about it touching him at first but never bolted off or did anything silly. Such a brave guy!

May 22, 2014 – Day 4

Not much to say about Wolf tonight. Worked with him on the plastic bag this evening and he pretty much could care less. It did take him about two minutes to determine it was OK for the bag to touch his chest and then he was fine. Too dark to take video. Hopefully tomorrow! Nice, brave boy this one!

May 21, 2014 – Day 3

More slow work with Wolf laying a foundation of trust. Working on teaching him to accept my approach. He isn’t flighty at all but wants to walk of and not look at me when I try to catch him so I went ahead and put the drag line back on him tonight. We worked on desensitization to the stick and string and tomorrow may start with the flag depending how he does. Sweet boy once you get up to him and very playful. Caught him twirling his lead rope around! I have found the more playful types are the braver ones so we will see!

May 20, 2014 – Day 2

Worked with Wolf tonight continuing desensitization to the stick and string while slowly decreasing the space between him and I. I was able to grab his lead rope so we started working on yielding to pressure from side to side. He now understands the concept however I am going to have to work to get him light. That’s pretty normal though so I am definitely not worried. We worked to the left and the right. Once I had a little control on his head I was able to discourage him from trying to leave as I closed the gap between him and I. He’s not really scared just unsure so we used lots of approach and retreat till finally he was comfortable with me touching / standing / petting him on his left side. I went ahead and removed his lead line so he doesn’t keep pulling on his face but left his halter on for now. Looking forward to our next training session.

May 19, 2014 – Day

Wolf settled in nicely from his journey from the Mustang Makeover adoption event. He seemed at ease unloading and never really worried about being in a new place. His first training session went very well. Vivian worked with him for his first session. He is already turning to the inside consistently both directions and will stop and look and lick and chew. He’s starting to learn that it is OK when the string touches him. He seems like a very confident horse and we look forward to working with him again!
