Opie -Adopted

Posted by in .

Special thanks for your gift: Amber E. , Linda R., Tanya Stanton, Scott Ellwood your donation towards our BLM Trip made fostering Opie possible.

Opie is a 2 yo BLM mustang gelding. He is 15.1 hands and is definitely still growing! He is approximately a January baby and just turned 3. Opie is a sorrel who was born at Ridgecrest Corrals. His mom was from the Twin Peaks HMA. We picked Opie up from the Ridgecrest Holding Facility on October 25, 2013. Opie was adopted and has gone on to a wonderful new home. Be sure to bookmark Opie’s blog page below to ensure you have the most up to date information about Opie’s (now Calvin) training progress!!

March 2014

Opie has gone on to a wonderful home and is already being started. His new name is Calvin! Follow him and his adopter on their blog at http://www.chestnutmustang.blogspot.com

February 2014

I have made the decision that I don’t have enough time to dedicate to two green horses as Malibu is quite the training project! I’ve taken Opie out several times. He’s a big love bug and super easy to catch. Always in your business and wanting to be loved on. Currently he is serving as a mustang ambassador at my ranch to show visitors how friendly and loving a mustang can be. He has been saddled and we’ve started to ground drive him. Opie has a naturally brave, confident, curious personality and should make one heck of a fun trail horse.

Training Day 4

The saddle, saddle pad, and bath were all no problem. That seems to be the theme for everything we do with this guy. NO PROBLEM!

November 8, 2013 -Update

Opie is a big ham and a pleasure to have around. I haven’t had much time to work with him due to the light and a heavy work schedule. He’s getting turn out time with Nova and all he can eat so he can get enough calories to accommodate his growing stage. We welcome visitors to come out and check him out. He loves to go on walks and play on the obstacle course. GREAT ACTHA and trail horse prospect. You will be hard pressed to find another naturally gentle, quiet, and practically un-spookable horse like Opie.

October 27, 2013 -Day 3

Continue to be impressed! Opie had no trouble with the obstacle course. He went over the tree stumps, rail road ties, teeter bridge and regular bridge. Nothing even slightly bothered him. He did get a little schooling to keep his own space and not crowd when being led and is learning to back up when signaled by the lead rope. We worked on leading and stopping when the handler stops. All in all a very good day for him!

October 26, 2013 – Day 2

Talk about husband horse material! Still quiet, quiet, quiet. Opie was groomed all over, picked up both front feet, measured, tarped and introduces to a feed sack all in about 15 min. Great horse for a first time adopter. He is available now to BLM approved adopters for $125.

October 25, 2013 – Day 1

Played with Opie for about 5 min today. Talk about a QUIET colt!! Nothing spooks him or bothers him so far. He isn’t trained but he is sure already pretty gentle! Here are some quick snapshots we got of him this morning when he got home.
