Valentino

Valentino is a 3yo black gelding. This handsome gelding is in training as part of the Trainer Incetive Program. He will lead, load and pick up all four feet before he goes home. He is NOT trained to ride but should make an excellent trail horse with additional training. He has been adopted

Valentinos training has been completed and he is now in his new home. Here is the video filmed the day he left.

April 7, 2015

Continuing to work with Valentino on leading and petting both sides. He still starts off worried and then accepts petting. He even rests his head on me sometimes. Once he is more confident being pet on both sides we’ll teach him to pick up his feet so he can go to his new home. He is a very sweet boy and tries very hard. He wants to be with people but he is still a little unsure. Check out his video.

March 26, 2015

Worked with Valentino on leading and petting both sides. He did really good and was accepting being pet on both sides of his neck and starting to lead around nicely in his stall.

March 12, 2015

Worked with Valentino again in his stall. The primary focus today was asking him to stay out of the corners. He wanted to turn / pace every time he reached a corner of his pen where other horses while ignoring me completely. We were able to get two laps without him turning around or into me.

March 10, 2015

Started working on approach and retreat with Valentino. At the pens he loved to take carrots from the fence line so today I worked and tried to use that to my advantage. He’d let me get my hand / carrot about 1 foot from his nose and would walk off. We repeated his facing up and turning in lessons and worked on increasing his comfort level with me in his space. Finally he was able to take the carrot from me while I was IN the stall.

March 9 – Off

March 8 – Worked with Valentino again on facing up and turning to the inside. He’s doing consistent turns to the inside now. Occasionally he gets worried and choses to turn to the fence but he’s about 90% there

March 7, 2015

Worked with Valentino on facing up and looking at me when I am in his pen with him. Also had a chance to turn him out and get some pictures.

March 5, 2015 – Day 2

No training today for Valentino but he is much quieter today than yesterday. He is curious and pretty confident about approaching us to ask for carrots. We hope to start working with him on the weekend.

March 4, 2015 – Arrival Day

I worked with Valentino for a few minutes in a 24 x 30 stall to assess him. He is worried but was able to settle and look at me and is starting to learn how to turn to the inside toward me instead of away from me.
