Leon

Leon (Lion) is a 6 yo BLM gelding. This handsome chestnut boy was gathered 08/22/2011  fromMaverick-Medicine HMA in Nevada. Leon is not broke to ride although with training he should make a very nice riding horse. Leon has an adopter but you can still follow his progress! Worked to review picking up feet. Practiced putting the saddle pad on and off and tied him in his stall for about 30 min. He’s doing great and almost ready to go home!

Worked with Leon on trailer loading. He was great. This video shows start to finish his first trailer loading training session.

October 22, 2014

Tied Leon again in his stall and he did well with that. Did some more work with the saddle blanket and he is getting much more comfortable with that. Reviewed picking up feet and haltering.

October 21, 2014

Worked with Leon to review haltering and desensitization. Picked up all four feet and picked them out with the hoof pick. Then taught him to tie. We’ll not so much as teach him as tied him and went to work with another horse. As I expected he never set back or challenged the lead rope. He realized he was tied and just stood a good 15 minutes while I fed and watered all the other animals.

October 20, 2014

Worked with Leon on yielding his hind end. Started him on the basics of backing up in response to pressure on his nose and pressure from the lead rope. He is unsure of what he is being asked but is trying and slowly getting it.

October 18, 2014

Another great day with Leon. We measured him. He is 14.2 hands tall. I also brushed through his mane and he had no issue with the spray bottle. In his stall we worked on desensitization to the saddle blanket. That worried him at first but he soon found he could stand still while I put it on and took it off on both sides. After the basic review in his stall it was time for Leon to venture out of his stall for the first time. He was so good I decided to try him on the obstacles. He seemed to enjoy it! Be sure to check out the video !

October 16, 2014

Leon went from calm to calmer now that he has settled in. This good boy already meets most of the training requirements. Can’t wait to get him on the obstacle course this weekend!

Arrival Day – October 15, 2014

Leon is a super mello, laid back kinda guy. He wasn’t sure about me touching him but once I got a rope around his neck he was A OK with me petting him and scratching him. I was able to get the lead rope on him no problem and even started teaching him to lead. Such a good boy!
