Tiger

Tiger is a 6yo BLM Gelding. This handsome bay dun was gathered 01/05/2011  from Choke Cherry HMA in UT. Tiger is adopted!

November 18, 2014 – Training Day 11

Haltered Tiger and reviewed picking up feet and desensitization. Walked him around a little bit at night which worries him some but not too much. He’s ready to go home to his adopter any day now!

November 16, 2014 – Training Day 10

More review, working with Tiger on tying, this time for longer period of time and with me walking up to him and petting him then walking away. He was very good with it all. Didn’t bother him any.

November 15, 2014 – Training Day 9

Worked with Tiger teaching him to tie. He had no problem with that lesson! Also reviewed all basic behaviors like picking up feet, haltering etc.

November 13, 2014 – Training Day 8

Continued to work with Tiger on picking up his front feet and hind feet. Worked with him on desensitization and introduced him to the saddle blanket. Great training session for him!

November 11, 2014 – Training Day 7

Another good evening with Tiger. It was pretty windy out but we worked on grooming, leading and picking up feet. He’ll pick up his front feet and back feet now. From now on we’ll start increasing the amount of time we hold him up and start working towards being able to pick them out with a hoof pick.

November 10, 2014 – Very windy. Had the day off.

November 9, 2014 – Training Day 6

Tiger’s first time out on the obstacle course today! He was great! The only thing he wasn’t sure about was the tire. He tackled every other obstacle with ease! Video will be coming soon but here are some pictures in the mean time!

November 8, 2014 – Training Day 5

Took Tiger out of his stall for the first time. We went for a walk around the back of the property. He did great! Hoping to try the obstacle course tomorrow when we have more light.

November 7, 2014 – Training Day 4

Tonight I worked with Tiger on haltering. We reviewed me being able to touch and pick up his front feet and I started getting him used to having his back legs brushed in preparation for teaching him to pick those up. He was a good boy as always. Looking forward to taking him on the obstacle course this weekend.

November 6, 2014 – Off

Tiger had the day off. Took a few pictures in the morning.

November 5, 2014 – Training Day 3

Some firsts for Tiger tonight. First times being haltered which he is taking well enough. Also first time picking up his front feet. We are also continuing to work on desensitization, leading, and grooming.

November 4, 2014 – Training Day 2

Another great night with Tiger. Still easily following me around the pen. Today we worked on me touching him over his body including his head, neck, chest, shoulders and barrel all the way to his hip. I worked with him on backing up in response to pressure on the bridge of his nose. We worked some more on sending out and changing directions which he now completely understands. We also practiced moving his forequarters left and right. He is so quiet and calm I went ahead and pulled his halter off. I don’t think I’ll have any trouble catching him!

November 3, 2014 – Training Day 1

Overall impression of Tiger is that he is a calm, quiet but smart horse. Our first training session went very well! He is already leading light as a feather and following me around the pen. He is very inquisitive and doesn’t seem to have any ticklish spots. He can be touched all over his body with the stick and string including legs and hindquarters. I worked on asking him to move out away from me both to the left and the right. Because he is naturally and friendly and brave, he didn’t want to leave, he wanted to check me out. So we worked a bit on being sent out, reversing directions, stopping and being pet. Really nice session with him!
