August 8, 2015 

Murray continues to be very social. He had visitors today and readily approached all of us and stood quietly for petting. Murray is now adoption pending and just waiting to finish his training so he can go home!

August 6, 2015 – Training Day 3

Big change for Murray today. He was actively seeking me out on his own. I was able to continue to work on leading and yielding to pressure. His halter had started coming loose. It was the type that had a fixed lead rope so I decided to try switching it so I could take the lead rope off. It took a couple of minutes to desensitize him to the new halter but the change went smoothly. Murray is now able to be in his pen with no drag line.

August 5, 2015 – Training Day 2

Worked with Murray for about 10 min today. He is a pretty quiet horse but I haven’t been able to get a hold of his lead rope to start teaching him to yield to pressure. I decided to go ahead and throw a loop on him. That worked out well and we were able to make some progress yielding in response to pressure on the rope as well as some good touching / rubbing. Really nice horse. Here is a video showing most of our training session.

August 4, 2015 – Training Day 1

I worked with Murray today briefly to try and get a feel for him. We worked on turning to the inside. He caught on to that pretty quickly. Then we worked with desensitizing him to the string over his back. He worried about that some. Trotted off several times but was eventually able to stand while I flicked the string off and on. Later in the evening I sat outside his pen and he was confident enough to approach me for a carrot.
