Apollo

Apollo is a beautiful 7yo palomino gelding. Apollo is from the Silver King HMA in Nevada. He is not broke to ride but with additional training he should make an excellent trail horse.

March 12 – A great review lesson for Apollo. Today he was much quieter and had no issue travelling around his pen both ways. We worked a little bit on stops to the inside and looking at me.

March 11 – Went back to the basics with Apollo asking for him to go around the pen each way and turn to the inside. The inside turns were no problem for him but, in this new pen, he was extremely worried about going to the left. We worked on that for about 15 minutes until finally he was able to make several laps around his pen (at a walk) travelling to the left. From there I was able to practice throwing the string over his back, neck and hindquarters. He doesn’t seem too bothered by the string. It was a great breakthrough moment for him so we ended our lesson on a good note.

March 8-10 – Apollo has been out in the arena while another horse was using the training stall. He was brought up again tonight (10th) so we can work with him again tomorrow.

March 7, 2015

Worked with Apollo again today just on facing up and relaxing with the string on his back. Then I turned him out to get some pictures. He’s a good looking horse!

March 5, 2015 – Day 2

Apollo was much more relaxed with me in his stall today so we started by working on turns to the inside. He was doing really well with those so I started introducing a little more pressure by throwing my string over his back. This really worried him so we practiced quite a lot of it going just to the right. I ended our training session on a good note when he could stand still for the string on his back. He’ll need a couple of days to get used to it but he’s doing great for just being the second day!

March 4, 2015 – Arrival Day

Worked with Apollo today on the basic task of just asking him to make eye contact with me and turn into the inside. We did two brief, 5-minute sessions and he was very attentive and very good for both. Here are some pictures and video.
